Fab Couples: Washington

Aaron & Judy Koelsch

Aaron Koelsch, president and CEO, Koelsch Communities; Judy Koelsch, principal designer, JSK Interior Designs

Home base: Olympia

How did your love story begin? Our paths crossed in high school at a basketball game, and it wasn’t just any game—it was a matchup between our rival teams. We were introduced by a mutual friend. That initial meeting led to our first date, and from there, our story unfolded, weaving together shared moments and creating a history that continues to grow.

Favorite thing about one another: Aaron: The way she cares for and includes everyone she loves. Her service and kindness towards her family and friends is inspirational.

Judy: He is, and has been since the day I met him, a natural and strong leader.

Favorite date night: We embark on charming explorations through local antique shops. Both of us have a love for history, and we enjoy hunting for treasures with stories — whether it be vintage artwork, quaint teacups or even classic cars, to name a few. Each piece is a connection to the past, unraveling the mysteries of its rich history. Beyond personal joy, we curate these finds for our portfolio of senior living communities, sharing the magic of nostalgia. Each antique becomes a conversation starter, weaving tales that bring the warmth of history to our residents, creating a shared appreciation for the bygone eras we cherish. We call these ‘historical surprises,’ and they can be found in each of our communities across the eight states. We have many stories of visitors or residents recalling the exact pieces we find or sharing memories sparked by similar items from their past!

Favorite tradition you have as a couple: We enjoy spending summers on Silver Lake with friends and family. We hang out at the same cabin our parents owned, reliving memories from our youth. Days are filled with water skiing, tubing, games and good food. It’s a simple yet cherished routine that brings us together, creating new memories while holding onto the old.

What does your happily ever after look like? Our happily ever after is now, and we consider ourselves fortunate to be doing what we love today. We are proud to be a third-generation, family-owned business with a rich history spanning over 65 years, started by Aaron’s parents. Serving people today with the same founding principles laid down by his parents — with respect, dignity and compassion as ladies and gentlemen, serving ladies and gentlemen. Being part of this legacy brings us immense joy, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our family’s tradition of excellence.
