Cora Pizza & Plates Now Open in Capitol Hill

A new tenant made its debut in Seattle’s Capitol Hill last month—Cora Pizza & Plates. The new Italian spot offers wood-fired pizzas and a curated cocktail lineup in a laidback environment.

After taking over the former Southpaw Pizza space in Seattle, Cora Pizza & Plates is now open and located in a Capitol Hill neighborhood. The new Italian restaurant was created by Chef John Sundstrom of Lark Seattle and his partners Kelly Ronan and JM Enos.

The space boasts a light, neutral color palette with gray walls, blue table tops, wood booths and banquets. Adorning the walls is an assortment of custom prints inspired by vintage canned tomato labels for a uniquely laidback feel.

The menu features an array of pasta, sweets and, most notably, signature pizzas. Each item on the bill of fare was created to reflect Sundstrom’s ethos of showcasing only the best seasonal, locally-grown produce, including pizza crusts made with unique custom wheat milled by Smalls Family Farms of Walla Walla and grains from Winthrop-based Bluebird Grain Farms.

Some must-try plates at Cora Pizza & Plates include rigatoni with beef, pork Bolognese, bread crumbs and parmesan and Spaghettini Puttanesca with olives, anchovy, garlic, capers, chilies, lemon, tomato and Grana. If you are in the mood for a slice of the wood-fired za’, opt for the Cacio e Pepe with olive oil, ricotta, pecorino romano, roasted garlic and black pepper or the traditional Margherita with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. The crust of each pizza is cooked until blistered, tender and offering the perfect amount of chewiness. A gluten-free crust is also available for those with dietary restrictions. If you can save room for dessert, the Seattle restaurant offers sweets like the lemon budino with kumquat-vanilla bean conserva or dark chocolate crinkle cookies.

In addition to scratch cocktails, Cora Pizza & Plates offers a selection of wine by the glass or bottle to complement each plate, two local beers on draft and traditional Negronis and Manhattans.

Cora Pizza & Plates is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
