Fabulous People: Hutton Moyer

Hutton Moyer is the owner and founder of Moyer Baseball Academy as well as a real estate broker with Wyman Group, specializing in the Greater Seattle and Bellevue areas. “I have the pleasure of being deeply involved in two uniquely different businesses.” Learn about Hutton Moyer…

Hometown: Choosing a hometown has always been hard to land on. My siblings and I say that we’re from Seattle, though my dad’s 26 years in major league baseball led us to move over 60 times. We’ve spent considerable time in Indiana, Chicago, Florida, San Diego and Arizona, as well.

First job: Playing baseball with the Angels in the minor leagues. Low paying and emotionally taxing, but it taught me everything about failure and perseverance.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in WA: My wife and I have two little girls, Cameron (4) and Lola (1). We love to take walks through the Lake Washington arboretum and have leisurely Sunday morning breakfasts at Hi Spot Cafe near our home. We love to host friends for dinner, and now that the season is changing we will look forward to plenty of football.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: My daughters are my greatest accomplishment. The most rewarding sense of teamwork is the teamwork built within a family unit. Coexisting and co-creating with my wife to help raise our daughters will always be my biggest feat.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: The transition from ‘the end’ of baseball into the working world and fatherhood has been my greatest challenge. In that transition, I’ve learned plenty of ingenuity, and how to look in the mirror and acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses. Building a business became much more painless after I figured out how and where to delegate. Time management is always an obstacle.

Someone who inspires you and why: Likely my dad, Jamie. He spent 26 seasons in the big leagues and by all standards wasn’t ‘the greatest’ to ever play. In this time, he maintained an unmistakable work ethic and managed to play the long game, literally. He and my mom created many opportunities to give back to the community and even helped set up the Magnolia Baseball Program. They’ve funded several nonprofit organizations and initiatives over the years including cancer treatment, bereavement camps and education.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: I work full time as a real estate agent, and Moyer Baseball Academy is my passion project. The advice I would give to anyone is to always make time for your passion projects. If the enthusiasm is there, you will find success. That being said, rigid organization and time management are the most important tools in finding balance in your day. I still struggle to prioritize both.

Favorite quote: “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” –Michael Jordan

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I’m one of eight kids, meaning I have seven siblings ranging from ages 16 to 32.

What makes someone fabulous: Authenticity.
