Hometown: Elizabethtown, KY

First job: Worked in a country club pro shop at age 15.

Favorite ways to spend your free time in WA: Running, golfing, live concerts, adventuring in our motorhome, discovering off-the-beaten path eateries.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Completing my Doctorate degree. Never believed I was smart enough to get any of my degrees.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Recovering from the death of my older brother. He took his own life on Dec. 26, 2016.

Someone who inspires you and why: My life partner, Lori. Her early-life trauma held the lethality of taking her out of the game of life.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: I could write a book about this (please don’t tempt me), as it’s such a big question. Take to heart the sentiment in Tom Petty’s song, “Rhino Skin.”

Favorite quote: “Do something that scares you every day.” —Eleanor Roosevelt

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I have a BA in Agriculture Ed. from Western Kentucky University. Fresh out of WKU, I taught Agriculture at Desoto County High School in Arcadia, Florida. What a ride for a “city-boy!”

What makes someone fabulous: To maximize their gifting by integrating the profound elements of nature and nurture, with all the good and not-so-good these both bring.
