Restaurant of the Week: The Stowaway Wine Bar

As a destination town, the city of Seabrook has lots to offer–from the ocean views to breathtaking sunsets–and The Stowaway Wine Bar is at the center of it all. Visit The Stowaway’s new location at 203 Market Street for a truly captivating wine bar experience.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo of Garry and Heather Montag, The Stowaway came to life in 2014 and recently opened its new, expanded location, featuring an impressive 4,600-bottle cellar. The fresh space offers wine tasting, bottles for purchase, tasty eats and a welcoming space for all wine lovers to enjoy a glass of their favorite sip. With a strong focus on wines from Washington, Oregon and California’s top regions, Garry and Heather have established a vast collection of reds, whites and bubbly.

Upon entering, view the extensive wine library wall and savor some of the exclusive wines to take home or enjoy on-site. Sit along the custom-made bar top, and below the 26-rope chandelier and the most unique wine barrel ceiling installation, which features barrels from the old location that have been repurposed as a focal point in the new space.

Sit back and relax with wine by the flight. This option comes with three 3-oz. pours for $25, or you can upgrade to a premium flight ranging from $30 to $50. Both of these options allow you to try wines from different regions and indulge in the diverse flavors from an array of winemakers. Along with a large variety of wines, The Stowaway also has a rotating selection of beers on tap for those who wouldn’t consider themselves a wine enthusiast but want to enjoy an adult beverage while taking in the ocean views.

Charcuterie boards are a wonderful addition to your drink of choice, and The Stowaway’s signature boards come with a selection of cured meats, cheeses, pickles, nuts and then served with crackers and a sliced baguette. This light bite is available for one or big groups. If you are looking for more shareables, try the soft cheese board and pair it with the warm pretzel and mustard. If you are seeking more sustenance, order one of the wine bar’s mouthwatering flatbreads, like the pesto flatbread which is topped with pesto, mozzarella, prosciutto and parmesan. Or enjoy the figgy flatbread, served with a fig paste, mozzarella, prosciutto, gorgonzola and parmesan; these flatbreads are bursting with flavor.

Inquire about the Admiral’s Wine Club, a wonderful reason to visit Seabrook two to three times a year and pick up your wine. The Stowaway’s wine club consists of two levels: the Vice Admiral, which includes three bottles for $75 to $100 and 10 percent off purchases, or the Admiral, with six bottles from $150 to $200 and 15 percent off purchases. (If you are unable to pick up your selection, the wine bar will store it for you until you’re able to as shipping is not available at this time.)

During your stay in Seabrook, be sure to ask about The Stowaway’s in-home wine tasting options. This allows for a customized wine tasting in your beautiful beach rental. Online ordering is also available if you are wanting to snag a bottle of your favorite wine for pick-up.

Guests can expect events to be a regular occurrence with live music, guest winemaker visits, wine
classes, wine-blending experiences and more. The Stowaway Wine Bar is now open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m., Sunday to Thursday, and noon to 9 p.m. on weekends. For more information, visit www.thestowawaywinebarseabrookwa.com.
