5 Can’t-Miss Summer Festivals

Summer in Washington is here, and there are so many fun things–whether you’re a fan of sports, seafood or beer–happening in the Evergreen State this season. Check out these iconic Washington summer festivals.

June 17: Fremont Solstice Parade

The 33rd annual Fremont Solstice Parade, produced by the Fremont Arts Council, is happening at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. Come be dazzled as more than 60 community-based ensembles parade down the streets of Fremont with giant puppets, stilt walkers, floats, dancers, cyclists and musicians in this kaleidoscope of joyous human expression. There will be a block party where the parade route ends, which will feature a beer garden, bands and more. The block party runs from noon to 9 p.m.

 June 24 and June 25: Spokane Hoopfest

Spokane’s annual Hoopfest is the largest three-on-three basketball tournament in the world, making it an iconic Washington summer festival. Beyond basketball, Spokane Hoopfest is an outdoor festival with shopping, food and interactive entertainment. While you’re walking from game to game, court to court, there are many vendors to check out. From jewelry to sunglasses to temporary tattoos, there’s a little something for everyone. There is also a diverse collection of delicious food vendors every year. Spokane Hoopfest begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and will come to a close around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Cost: Free for spectators (prices vary for those playing in the tournament).

Ballard Seafood Fest takes place on NW Market Street in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. This event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and concludes at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

July 15: Elysian Brewing’s Dust Fest

Elysian Brewing is holding its first-ever Dust Fest, a summer celebration inspired by the brewery’s best-selling beer, Space Dust IPA. This Washington summer festival combines the best elements of beer festivals, concerts and block parties, bringing together IPA enthusiasts, music lovers and those seeking to enjoy the bliss of summertime in Seattle. Enjoy a variety of 45-plus local craft IPAs from Elysian Brewing and other local Washington breweries. The inaugural event will take place at Elysian’s Taproom in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle. The event will go from 4 to 10 p.m.
Cost: $35 plus fees.

Seafair Weekend is a Washington summer festival that takes place annually. It is set on Lake Washington’s 1.5 miles of shoreline and is the largest boating event, air show and festival all in one. Seafair features hydroplane races, a Blue Angels air show, live music and plenty of food and drinks. There are also festivities happening on the water, where boats tie up and watch the races. Seafair runs all weekend long.
Cost: $35 for adults; $13 for children.
