Restaurant of the Week: Skillet Diner @ Post Alley

Skillet Diner is a beloved household name in Seattle. For over 16 years, locals and tourists alike have been enjoying its elevated comfort food prepared with seasonal ingredients and classic techniques. And now, we all have a brand new location–and its largest–to feast on fried chicken and sip cocktails: Post Alley.

Skillet Street Food first opened in 2007, serving piping-hot meals from a vintage Airstream trailer. The food was an instant hit, and before long, Skillet expanded to brick-and-mortar locations. You’ll also find them at the Seattle Center, on Capitol Hill, at 6th and Lenora in the Regrade building, and at SeaTac Airport.

The newest location, Skillet Diner @ Post Alley, is on the Harbor Steps, just a few steps away from the heart of Pike Place Market. The diner serves the same high-quality food and friendly service as the other spots, just in a much more spacious setting. Enjoy your meal in the large dining room, on the patio or get it to-go from the takeout window designed to resemble an Airstream trailer — a perfect throwback to the way it all began.

Deciding what to order at Skillet is never easy, but one thing is certain: You will not leave hungry. The all-day “Breaky” menu includes an absolutely perfect order of chicken and waffles, breakfast burritos and bagels with the most flavorful lox and decadent dill cream cheese. The classic mac and cheese and kale caesar are a perfect lunch combination, and of course, you can never go wrong with the fried chicken (especially if it’s Nashville style) or chilaquiles.

While you’ll see plenty of familiar signature staples on the Skillet Diner @ Post Alley menu, you’ll also find a few new items like shrimp and grits and an unbelievably delicious shepherd’s pie. And while this location (like the others) is family-friendly, it also has a full bar and a tempting drink menu.

Skillet Diner @ Post Alley is open daily, 7 a.m. to midnight (2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). Try to grab a seat on the patio now before it becomes the newest hot spot this summer.
