Seattle International Comedy Competition

From Nov. 4 to Nov. 28, the 41st Seattle International Comedy Competition takes place with a 17-performance tour throughout the Puget Sound area. After taking 2020 off due to the pandemic, the competition is ready to delight Seattle audiences by introducing them to some of today’s best comics.

While some usual venues are not open to the public yet, the 2021 competition will most notably lack a show at the historic Comedy Underground, which was unable to survive the COVID-19 lockdown after 40 years in Pioneer Square. However, audiences can look forward to shows at the Broadway Performance Hall on Capitol Hill, hosted by past Comedy Competition winner Gabriel Rutledge, on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, and seeing the finals at Laughs Comedy Club in the University District on Nov. 28.

The top five comics from the two preliminaries will make the semi-finals; all the semi-finalists win cash and get to compete for the title by performing for 10 minutes nightly for five shows.

At the last semi-final show, the five finalists are announced. Then, the final round begins the fourth week of November, and a champion will be determined.
