Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume to Open at Museum of Pop Culture

With more than 70 original pieces on display, Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture announces its newest exhibit, Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume. It is set to open June 6, showcasing costuming never before seen outside of the Disney Fan Club Expo.

Whether you’re a fan of Cinderella and Snow White or you prefer Disney’s darker side, a la Maleficent and Jack Sparrow, there is something for everyone at Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume at Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). The exhibit spotlights dozens of original pieces, including ball gowns, sorcerers’ capes, military uniforms, tiaras and, in true Disney fashion, glass slippers, worn by some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume highlights include 10 Cinderella pieces including ball gowns, tiaras, slippers and other accessories including a gown, made from more than 270 yards of fabric and adorned with over 10,000 crystals, from 2015’s Cinderella by Sandy Powell; work from 19 different designers, including 11 Oscar winners and nominees: Colleen Atwood, Jenny Beavan, Jacqueline Durran, Anthony Powell, Sandy Powell, Bill Thomas, Paco Delgado, Gary Jones, Jeffrey Kurland, Judianna Makovsky and Anna Sheppard; and an interactive, yet touchless “Magic Mirror” inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and designed by MoPOP, which allows the visitor to virtually “try on” several of the costumes featured in the film.

Tickets to MoPOP’s Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume are now on sale at www.mopop.org/HeroesAndVillains.
