Woven Seafood & Chophouse has opened on Tacoma’s waterfront. The fresh concept is from respected restaurateur Roy Yamaguchi, in partnership with the Puyallup Tribe, and honors Yamaguchi’s Japanese heritage and pioneering Hawaii regional cuisine alongside culinary traditions of the Puyallup Tribe and the magnificent bounty of the Pacific Northwest.
The newly opened Tacoma restaurant was developed by Roy Yamaguchi, marking the acclaimed chef’s first restaurant in the Pacific Northwest. The James Beard Award–winning chef and restaurateur is known for his innovative fusion of Hawaii and Asian cuisines and commitment to sustainability. At the helm of Woven Seafood & Chophouse is Dexter Mina, a Yamaguchi restaurant alumnus.
“Woven is designed to weave together the culinary and cultural threads of Puyallup with Hawaii and Japanese traditions,” says Chef Yamaguchi, in a press release. “Our menu will offer a modern and blended twist on steak and seafood, emphasizing local ingredients and traditional techniques.”
Woven Seafood & Chophouse replaces a former C.I. Shenanigans restaurant four years after its closure. After a top-to-bottom renovation, designed by Tacoma-based Ferguson Architecture and constructed by Korsmo Construction, the 15,000-sq.-ft. full-service restaurant now houses nearly 250 seats, an expansive patio with views of Commencement Bay, a bar and lounge area, and several private dining and events spaces upstairs.
The restaurant is owned by the Puyallup Tribe and sits upon Puyallup tribal land on Tacoma’s waterfront Ruston Way. It is found near the new terminal for Kenmore Air’s seaplane service, connecting Tacoma with the San Juan Islands.
“Woven is a way for people to connect with our ancestral homeland, integrating traditional elements with modern culinary artistry,” says the Puyallup Tribal Council, the Tribe’s governing body, in a press release. “This collaboration with our friend Roy Yamaguchi has allowed us to create a space that reflects our heritage and looks to the future. We hope it will become a favorite spot for people all over the area.”
Woven Seafood & Chophouse is open for weekend brunch, daily dinner, and lunch and happy hour on weekdays.
