Fairmont Olympic Seattle - Shuckers Interior

Restaurant of the Week: Shuckers

Located inside the beautiful Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Downtown Seattle, Shuckers is one of the area’s oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars that specializes in fresh seafood, cocktails and wine. The restaurant recently reopened with an all-new, robust dinner menu.

From the moment you step into Shuckers, you can feel the classic, old Seattle vibe. Shuckers Seattle has been around since the 1930’s, which is shown by the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling. The atmosphere is classy, warm and welcoming, and the fresh local seafood is not to be missed.

Start your night off with a cocktail or two – we love the classic gin martini with orange bitters and the Shuck Me, a spin on the French 75 using cognac. The oysters are, of course, a must. You can order them raw on the half shell, or baked with lemon and herb butter. There are plenty of delicious shareable options for the table, too, including Dungeness crab cakes, popcorn shrimp and steamed clams with white wine and garlic. The soup and salad options are great as well, including Shuckers Seattle’s famous clam chowder with smoked bacon and the Crab Louie salad.

A daily selection of fish is offered on the Shuckers Featured Fish Board, and these options really do change daily! Options often include salmon, halibut, trout and scallops, and there are two different ways that you can have your fresh fish prepared. We decided on the scallops with pommes puree and crispy Brussels sprouts, and the plate is absolutely delicious. The scallops are perfectly seared and buttery.

In addition to the daily rotating fish, there is a fantastic selection of large plates, including lobster
campanella, curry beer-battered halibut and chips, and the grilled New York strip loin. For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, it makes an excellent steak.

For dessert, Shuckers Seattle offers classic favorites like crème brûlée and a flourless chocolate tart. Whatever you decide, you really can’t go wrong.
