Fab Mixologists & Bartenders

Lindsay Matteson | @lindsaymatteson

Lindsay Matteson is an example in the duality of both a woman and artist. While her primary role revolves around serving up flavorful cocktail concoctions and spirits as the bar manager at The Walrus and the Carpenter and Barnacle in Seattle, Matteson has also managed to translate her gift for creating (and her love for mixology) into an actual art form too.

Her cocktail book—chock full of dainty, charming illustrations dreamed up by Matteson herself—is available to purchase on Etsy. Talk about life imitating art!

Best part of working in Washington’s mixology scene? The community of industry professionals we have here is really wonderful. Everyone has a lot of wisdom to share, and we all help each other out professionally and personally.

Your go-to drink to make and why: I love working with amari, so I make a lot of Negroni variations. It’s a versatile template, and depending on the amaro and other spirits chosen you can get a wide variety of cocktails for any occasion.

Best advice to an aspiring bartender or mixologist: The USBG is a great resource for anyone interested in cocktail bartending. Join the USBG chapter in your area. Whether you’re new to bartending or have just moved cities, the USBG is a great place to network and learn.
