Homebase: Tacoma

How did your love story begin? We were both born in the same state during the same month of the same year, which feels a little bit like fate. Our paths crossed several times over the years as we moved to different places for schools and jobs, but we didn’t actually meet. Finally, in 2010, shared friends introduced us at a bar in New York City, and by the end of the night, we were holding hands and making plans. We moved to Washington in 2012 and since have married, created businesses, purchased a home and started a family. We’re excitedly looking forward to what’s next for us.

Favorite thing about one another: Jeff: Molly is the type of person who puts everyone else’s needs before her own. That makes her a great wife but, much more importantly, a fantastic mother to our two girls. I don’t know where I would be without the support she has given me. She is also an incredibly creative person, which keeps things fun for our family.

Molly: Jeff has a genuine curiosity for the world and a confidence in himself that is unlike anyone I’ve ever met. He goes after whatever he’s interested in with complete commitment, passion and intellectual fervor. From career pursuits to simple hobbies, Jeff researches everything there is to know about any given subject, can speak on it thoughtfully and is usually the smartest person in the room. It’s inspiring and infectious. He’s changed the way I approach everything, and I can’t wait to see what he’s sure to ignite in the minds of our young daughters.

Favorite date night: Before the pandemic and parenthood, our ideal date night would’ve included cocktails, dinner at a new-to-us restaurant, and maybe a competitive game or two of table shuffleboard. But these days, with COVID and two little ones at home, we try to keep things simple. Our favorite date night right now is making dinner after the kids are in bed, firing up a classic rom-com or action movie from the 80’s, and treating ourselves to popcorn or homemade chocolate mousse.

Favorite tradition you have as a couple: We love to travel, and our favorite tradition is to sample ice cream novelties all over the world. At least once per trip, we find ourselves wandering into a random convenience store to find frozen treats. We get really competitive about who will make the best choice. There’s something so special about this routine and the conversations we have while crunching on something sweet, walking back to the hotel after a long day of exploration.

What does your happily ever after look like? We want to find a way to spend as much time together as possible, preferably traveling around the world. And to raise our daughters to grow up to be intelligent, kind and empathetic people who are true to themselves and define success on their own terms.
