Hometown: San Jose, CA

First job: Johnny Rockets as a server serving up burgers and fries with a smile! We wore the hats and change caddies, and even danced on stools lip-syncing with ketchup bottles to Frank Sinatra’s “Chicago.”

Favorite ways to spend your free time in WA: I love to ski with my girls, play water polo, hockey and take the wife out to new restaurants.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: I’ve been fortunate enough to have the ability to create different concepts in such a small locale which have been well received by our supportive community. Accomplishments don’t come without the wide support of co-workers, customers, friends and family!

The biggest obstacle you overcame: The MAR·KET was a concept new to the area of Downtown Edmonds and definitely a gamble. We took it from a 100-year-old bare bone space to a fully fledged fishmonger and eatery. It lost money for the first two years in business and this year during Covid, it has thrived beyond belief. It has single-handedly saved our hospitality company with it’s quick-service style and available heated outdoor dining.

Someone who inspires you and why: I am constantly inspired by the people around me. There’s never one person who offers it all and to be able to see the greatness in people really allows me to stay positive and love what I do. Of course, I’ve had mentors and leaders who have taught me everything I know, but I honestly wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for having the inspiration of humanity itself.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: You must absolutely love what you do every single minute. There’s nothing worse than working in an industry that doesn’t lift you up. Even through the pandemic, there’s no regret. This industry is hard, unforgiving, exhausting and critical. The hospitality industry is also instantly gratifying, full of love, self fulfilling and not to mention delicious.

Favorite quote: “Luck favors the prepared man.” –Travis Rosenthall of Pike Street Hospitality

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I’ve been playing water polo for 24 years. I practice with Seattle Masters’ Water Polo and have really missed it during this pandemic. These people are family to me.

What makes someone fabulous: Being fabulous means that someone is totally living life one day at a time taking in all the positivity the day has to offer and bestowing it upon those around. We’ve all met that server, chef or bartender that absolutely embraces you when you enter and has left you an everlasting memory of a good time when you leave. That’s just fabulous!
